Art

Art is offered as a curriculum from Kindergarten to Class 12 .Taught by experts, our students have honed their skills to such an extent that our art exhibitions are a treat for the eye.

The 2012-13 desk top calendar of Trivandrum International School is exclusively the work of our students and is of such outstanding quality that The Hindu newspaper printed a feature on it.

 

Music

A wide spectrum , ranging from the melodious eastern to the dynamic western is offered to the student community by our exceptionally talented music Department.

Every student specializes in any one instrument of his \ her choice . Professional experts contracted from outside ,along with our Music Department help to raise the levels of our students to their maximum potential. We offer Tabla , Mrithungam , Ghatam and Veena for the traditionally inclined and Violin , flute , Guitar and Piano for the Western taste buds.

The school also has an excellent band.

 

Dance

Ranging from the classical Bharatnatyam to the  mix and match tribal dances and folk songs for the theme related topics in the primary years program are taught by our in house dance teacher and have helped our students win various trophies in interschool and state level competitions’. Annual Founders day program uses symbolism to effectively convey powerful messages through dance choreographed exclusively by our in-house dance department.

Fulbright Teacher Exchange Programme

The Fulbright programme is the flagship educational exchange programme sponsored by the US Government Department of State Bureau of Educational & Cultural  Affairs. Ms Sreeja Rajan,Head of Senior Secondary School and teacher of Biology taught during the 6 month Fall semester at Andover High School,Massachusetts and Mr Steve Sanborn was the exchange teacher to Trivandrum International School.

Friedrich Rückert Gymnasium ,Ebern, Germany and Herzog Christoph Gymnasium Beilstein, Germany

Ongoing programmes were organized by the Goethe-Institute, Max Mueller Bhavan, and Robert Bosch Stiftung Foundation.Our School partnered with the Herzog-Christoph Gymnasium School in Beilstein, Germany, as part of an exchange programme which focuses on various social and cultural issues. The latest theme was ‘Old age care’ which exposed children to the differences and similarities of how the two societies dealt with such a universal issue and helped them learn from each other.

The Ecole Active Bilingue Jeanine Manuel, Paris.

The Ecole Active Bilingue Jeanine Manuel, Paris is an elite private school in Paris where  classes in both English and French provide students the opportunity to reach a high level of proficiency in both languages.                                    

Annually students from the The Ecole Active Bilingue Jeanine Manuel,Paris have been to our school,participating in lessons, teaching, performing and most  importantly conducting  joint seminars which have increased awareness of the rapidly changing socio- economic  relationship of India with the international community

Elon University, North Carolina, USA.

Dr  Martin Kamela,  Department of  Physics, Elon University, visits  the school annually with their  ‘travelling science fair’. Apart from the riveting exhibits which is the high light of Science Week every year, these university students conduct lessons and group activities with students, greatly contributing to their understanding and interest in Science.

Enec Korea, Seoul, South Korea

The organization  has been instrumental  in bringing  Korean students to school. Their inclusion in the school community has enhanced the global ambience of the school.

TRINS believes in teaching students to be concerned not only about himself but also for the welfare of society as a whole.  The school has a full fledged social service programme which inculcates this community spirit in the students

Teaching at local schools

Year 11 students visit local government schools every week to teach the primary students English and IT skills. The children  are able to converse in basic English by the end of the year and our students develop a true bond with the underprivileged  helping them to lead their lives  as selfless individuals.

Special training for best outgoing students of the school

The best and the brightest of the underprivileged children come into school during their vacation month of April to be further trained in computer skills.

Sponsoring  special students

Some of the extremely needy students of the schools visited  are sponsored by staff and students who take care of the whole year’s school expenses including books and uniform.

Monthly donations for the palliative care unit at Chavara

Students  across the school, donate rice , oats, milk powder and other essentials to the needy terminally ill cancer patients at the palliative care  centre at Chavara.  They personally visit the centre to talk to and spend time with the patients so that they understand  and empathise with the people and feel a bond with them thereby encouraging them to continue to help those in need.

Visits to orphanages, hospitals and other charitable institutions

Visits and performances by the little children bring joy and peace to the inmates. Students also get exposed to the less fortunate and develop a sense of gratitude and generosity.

Social Service Month

October is celebrated as Social Service  month. Special activities of the month to inculcate the spirit of social service and collect noney for charity include :

1.Tenner – a – task

Students carry a book of coupons which are exchanged for pre-fixed  sums starting at Rs 10/- for simple errands and tasks done to help at home, in the community or at school. The money collected goes to charity and  students understand the dignity of labour

2.Food Fair

Special stalls are set up by separate classes  selling home made food and the money collected goes into the fund for charity. A special price for the class collecting the most money makes  the entire fun day with a purpose even more exciting‍.

Trivandrum International School joined the Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme in the  academic year 2012-13.This  is a prestigious Award Programme for the students of Age group 14 and above. As a part of this Programme students would be participating in four different areas of activities like Skill, Service, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey.

Awards are granted in three different categories-Bronze, Silver and Gold.  

Through this Programme Trinsanians are given a platform to showcase their skill and service, and thus achieve physical recreation and enjoy the adventurous journey.

Round Square International

Round Square is a worldwide association of schools which share a commitment beyond academic excellence, to personal development and responsibility.
Trivandrum International School became a member of the organisation from this academic  year.

A team of  8 students and a teacher visited Assam Valley School as a part of the Round Square Program in the month of September ,2012. They interacted with students of different schools and were part of various activities and local tour organized by the host School

Model United Nations

The school Model United Nations team attended a conference hosted by Dhirubhai International School, Mumbai,  in October, 2012. The team comprising Chanchal who played the prestigious role of Ambassador and five delegates viz.Vineeth John, Shilpa Janardhanan, Gitanjali Anu Krishna, Nayanika Krishnan and Mrinalini Mahadevan  represented various committees in the Model UN. The school represented Japan and debated from the Japanese perspective.

The thorough preparartion  of the students was fortified by valuable inputs from Prof Vijayan, Dept of English, Kerala University   and the former Ambassador of Japan, Mr. TP Sreenivasan.

The team worked frenetically to prepare for the conference by submitting policy papers and draft resolutions. Mock sessions were also held to  familiarize the students to the UN jargon and the proceedings  format.

The effort and the hard work put in by the students paid dividends  when the team was lauded and   appreciated by  the organizers  in the Model UN newsletter published by  Dhirubhai International School.
The  Model UN will remain   with the students  as one of the most memorable learning experiences  that they had had and the MUN  certificates will hold a place of pride in their homes.
